How I Created the Life I Always Wanted (And How You Can Too)

This morning, I woke up, looked around my life, and beamed with delight. I’ve created the exact life I’ve always (yes always) dreamed of. My home, my family, my business, and my health are not just what I wanted they’re more than I ever imagined possible.

But here’s the truth: I wouldn’t be here had I not made the decision to get intentional about what I was creating in my life. Happiness doesn’t just happen. It’s something we build through deliberate actions, choices, and reflection.

If you’re ready to create a life that makes you smile every morning, here are three powerful ways to start today:

1. Make Choices Based on What You Want (Not What You Don’t Want)

Too often, we spend our energy running from what we fear or what we dislike, instead of moving toward what we truly desire. To create a life you love, start making decisions that align with your goals and dreams.

Ask yourself:

  • What kind of life do I want to wake up to every day?

  • What would make me genuinely happy?

Then, make choices that reflect those answers. Don’t just avoid what you don’t want—actively pursue what lights you up.

2. Make Mistakes (Privately and Publicly)

If you’re afraid to fail, you’ll never try the things that could change your life. Give yourself permission to make mistakes, both in private and in front of others.

Mistakes are proof that you’re putting yourself out there, learning, and growing. They’re part of the process of creating something meaningful. When you embrace your missteps as lessons instead of failures, you’ll find yourself moving forward with courage and clarity.

3. Make Time to Reflect

Intentional living requires self-awareness, and self-awareness comes from reflection. Take time regularly to check in with yourself. Journaling, meditating, or even asking yourself meaningful questions can help you stay aligned with the life you want to create.

I use reflection questions to guide my own growth. For example, I created a resource called The 21 Questions Journal. It’s designed to help you get clear about what you want, why you want it, and how to make it happen. Making time to reflect has been one of the most powerful habits in my journey to intentional living—and it can be for you too.

The Bottom Line

Creating the life you want doesn’t happen overnight, but it starts with small, intentional steps. Choose what you want, embrace your mistakes, and reflect on your progress along the way. If you commit to these habits, you’ll look around one day—just like I did—and realize you’ve built a life that makes you truly happy.
